"Bertie" - My Beetle
I have owned my Mexican Volkswagen Beetle since June 2006 after purchasing it from a private dealer in Bognor Regis. Prior to my purchase it had been in a private car collection since new when purchased from Beetles UK in 1998, clocking up only 2,500 miles (having only been used to go to events and the shops). It had only been dry driven, never in the rain. That all changed as the first day I took it to work, it subsequently rained!
Since I purchasd the Bug it has kept me busy with constant polishing and general maintentance. I have since replaced all the original chrome parts with good quality euro spec german parts, fitted front fog lights and four stud four spoke BRM alloys which I have since refurbished due to corrosion of the lacquer. A few years back I managed to source and fit a nice set of CSP LED Rear Light clusters, which compliment the car very nicely.
One important item I advise you to do to your Beetle is waxoyle or black-jack the inside/underside of the body and chassis, this will reduce the risk of rotting in key areas, and save you money in the long term. So far I haven't had any rust in key areas to complain about.
Remember, any modifications you make to your Beetle should be passed onto your Insurance company so that you are covered in all eventuallities.
